Abstract
The general framework of references for this study consists of rights and responsibilities of the sick role by Parsons.
The purpose of this study is to understand the perception about sick role of clinical nurse and patient & his guardian. The research tool was developed by investigation from the literature review.
Subjects consisted of two non-random convenience sample, one was 148 clinical nurse£» and the other was 199 patients and his gurdians. Data was collected by self administered questionaire from 1st June to 30th June 1987, at 2 general hospitals located in Daejeon.
By SPSS, data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, T-test, Pearson correlation.
The results of the study may summarized as follows£º
1. There was no difference between groups in actual level (P=.353) and discrepant score (P=.122), and statistically significant difference in expected level (P=.012), and importance (P=.004).
2. From the clinical nurse¢¥s view, actual level is correlated with expected level (r=.3855, P=.000), importance(r=.2979, P=.000), and discrepant score (r=-.6958, P=.000). Expected level is correlated with importance (r=.8704, P=.000) and discrepant score (r=.3386, P=.000).
Importance is correlated with discrepancy (r=.3150, P=.000).
3. From the patient and his guardian¢¥s view, actual level is correlated with expected level (r=.4289, P=.000), importance (r=.3812, P=.000), and discrepant score (r=-.8005, P=.000), Expected level is correlated with importance (r=.8833, P=.000).
Therefore, nurses should make a great deal of efforts to improve the understanding of expected level and importance about sick role of patient and his guardian.
